This is an evening all look forward to! What a great neighborhood tradition this has turned into.
The children are dressed in their costumes. The adults are waiting for their visits. Upon reaching a home, it is customary for the children to play the game "Who Am I?" Our "saints" describe their history and explain their costumes. It's not always easy to determine who the "saint" is since some children dig deep into the saint encyclopedias to find an uncommon saint to stump the adults with. It's an educational evening for all.
Of course the children then receive candy, holy cards or a prayer card in return for their visit. After a couple of hours of house visiting, the neighbors gather at the large (Dozule) cross to pray the Rosary and the Litany of the Saints in front of a roaring bonfire. Occasionally, there is an evening hayride also.
In addition to being educational and spiritual, it is a time for a social gathering. Adults and children alike look forward to this fun filled evening.
